Handing over the postcards
MP Colin Brooks visited the House to receive the postcards our community signed, asking for fairer funding for neighbourhood houses.
We were honoured to welcome MP Colin Brooks to Watsonia Neighbourhood House.
Colin visited so that we could hand over the postcards signed by our community in support of increased state government funding for neighbourhood houses.
Neighbourhood houses are the heart of their communities. With restored funding we can keep our doors open for the people who most need them, provide pathways into work and learning, deliver emergency food and material relief, and support the volunteers who hold it all together.
Neighbourhood houses deliver enormous social and economic value. But with the Neighbourhood House Coordination Programme hourly rate 20% lower than it was a decade ago, open hours across the sector are at their lowest in ten years.
We also had the chance to show Colin the progress of our front garden, funded by the North East Link project — new paths, seating areas and an edible garden that was still growing at the time.
Thank you for taking the time to visit us, Colin.
